What is the mission of Troop 1013? Troop 1013 was started in 2009 to promote the Boy Scouts of America program that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develop personal fitness. Our mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
Troop 1013 is a God-centered, non-profit organization that is chartered by the Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church in Prosper, Texas, and follows the guidelines established by the Boy Scouts of America.
How often does Troop 1013 go camping? We deliver the Boy Scout promise of any incredible Outdoor Program. We are a camping troop that enjoys monthly campouts. In the outdoors, boys have opportunities to acquire skills that make them more self-reliant. Good youth leadership, communication and teamwork enable them to achieve goals they have set for themselves, their patrol, and their troop.
Does Troop 1013 participate in community service projects? Yes. Service to others and good citizenship is learned through conservation projects, collecting food, building trails and shelters, and conducting community service projects. Through helping other people, Scouts learn to appreciate how they can share themselves and their blessings to those in need. By giving service to benefit others, Scouts gain a sense of personal satisfaction.
How did you choose the name “Troop 1013”? In the beginning, when the adult leaders had decided to create a new Boy Scout troop, a recent bible study came to mind. A local, bible study group had been studying Mark 10:13-16 which reads:
13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.
14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
15 Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
Troop 1013 believes that all children are a blessing, His reward to us. God wants us to be good stewards of what He has entrusted to us. And God called the troop, Troop 1013. And God saw the Troop, and He blessed them; and God saw that it was very good.
And on the next day, the adult leaders rested from all the work which they had made.
